What is a Retrofit Assessor

A retrofit assessor is a professionally qualified assessor who inspects existing domestic homes to collect data to enable the Retrofit Coordinator to make recommendations to the householder on the best way to make their home more energy efficient.

What is a Retrofit Assessor

The Retrofit Assessor will evaluate the property and complete a number of documents with supporting photographic evidence:

  • Ventilation Assessment – the internal air quality of the home is important without the correct ventilation there can be a build-up of condensation and mould in the property leading to serious health issues of the occupant.
  • Condition Report – the overall condition of the property will be assessed, and the Retrofit Coordinator will make recommendations on improvements to any defects identified.
  • Energy Assessment – this is more in-depth than the data used for an EPC to ensure that energy assessment is accurate.
  • RdSAP Site Notes – the site notes identify the built form of the home, number of bedrooms, age of the property and any energy efficiency measures previously installed helping the Retrofit Coordinator to produce accurate reports and recommendations.
  • Occupancy assessment – occupancy has an effect on the overall energy consumption of the home, heating patterns will vary.

In reality, the Retrofit Assessor is the Retrofit Coordinators’ eyes and ears and is arguably the most important role within the domestic retrofit process, if the assessment is wrong then the recommendations. Retrofit design and the installation may be wrong leading to performance gaps and unintended consequences.

Here in Retrofit Coordinators UK we only use the highest quality Retrofit Assessors, who are qualified to a minimum Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment, Level 3 Retrofit Assessor and qualified or working towards Level 4 Retrofit Assessment.

Retrofit coordinators are an absolute pleasure to work with,

Alex and his team have guided and advised Dodd Group with the initially rather complicated PAS2030/2025 processes.

With Alex’s support we were up and running in the world of PAS within a matter of weeks, we have now successfully delivered many projects.

Alex has introduced Dodd Group to new clients and we look forward to working with retrofit coordinators for many years to come.

PAS 2035:2019

PAS 2035:2019 is the overarching British Framework for Retrofitting dwellings for improved energy efficiency.

It provides specification, guidance and process for the installation of energy efficiency measures to existing domestic buildings, and details best practice guidance for Assessors, Coordinators Designers and Installers.

What makes PAS 2035 different, is the approach to the retrofit process which is considered to be fabric first, whole house retrofit.  This process considers the home energy performance, environment, occupancy, property condition and the householders’ improvement objectives when determining the most suitable energy efficiency measures to install. It also prohibits the issue of

What are the key roles introduced by PAS 2035?

PAS 2035 introduces a number of roles requiring new levels of qualifications which are required for the whole house retrofit projects.

The new professional roles are:

  • Retrofit Assessor
  • Retrofit Coordinator
  • Retrofit Designer
